Privacy Policy for Food Tracker App

Thank you for using Food Tracker App ("the App"). This Privacy Policy describes how your information is collected, used, and shared when you use our application.
Information We Collect
- Information You Provide: This includes text descriptions of meals, images of food you upload or capture, audio recordings you make for transcription, and your OpenAI API key if you choose to provide it in the settings.
- Information from Third Parties: If you scan a barcode, we query the Open Food Facts database and receive product information. If you use the app's subscription key, meal details (text/images/audio) are processed by OpenAI's API to provide nutritional analysis and transcription.
- Usage Information: We store data locally on your device to manage application features, including your API key mode preference, usage counts for free/premium tiers, location settings preference, and the date of last usage for daily limit calculations.
- Location Information: If you enable location services in the app settings, we collect approximate location data (like city/region) provided by your device's operating system to enhance the accuracy of food analysis. This data is stored locally within the app's settings.
- Subscription Information: If you subscribe to the premium tier, Apple's StoreKit framework processes the payment and manages your subscription status. We receive anonymized transaction information from Apple to verify your subscription status but do not have access to your payment details.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide the core functionality of the app, including meal analysis, voice transcription, and displaying nutritional information.
- To manage your usage limits based on your chosen API key mode and subscription status.
- To enhance the accuracy of meal analysis by incorporating optional location context.
- To process your subscription purchase and verify your entitlement status via Apple's StoreKit.
- To store your settings and preferences locally on your device.
Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information under the following circumstances:
- With OpenAI:** Text, image, and audio data submitted for analysis or transcription are sent to OpenAI's API for processing according to their terms and privacy policy. We use the API key you provide or the app's internal key depending on your settings.
- With Open Food Facts:** Barcodes scanned are sent to the Open Food Facts API to retrieve public product data according to their terms.
- With Apple:** Subscription purchases and status are managed via Apple's StoreKit framework according to their terms and privacy policy.
- As Required by Law:** We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or other legal processes.
We do not share your user-provided API key with any third party other than sending it directly to OpenAI as required for API requests when you select that mode.
Data Storage and Security
Your app settings (including API key if provided, usage counts, location preference, detected location) and logged meal data are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. We implement reasonable measures to help protect your information, but no security system is impenetrable.
Your Choices
- API Key:** You can choose whether to use your own API key or the app's subscription key in the Settings. You can add or remove your key at any time. Clearing the key or switching modes removes it from local storage.
- Location Services:** You can enable or disable location services for the app at any time in the Settings. Disabling it stops the collection of location data and clears any stored detected location.
- Data Deletion:** You can delete individual meal entries within the app, which removes the associated data from local storage. Uninstalling the app will remove all locally stored data.
Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
